Salary: Commensurate upon experience
Hours: 40 hours per week

SUMMARY:
The Medical Laboratory Technician provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories; receiving, typing, testing and reporting. Participates in training and quality programs as required and recommended by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduate of an associate-degree medical laboratory technician program or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists Association as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
· One (1) year of prior laboratory or phlebotomy experience in a clinic or hospital is preferred.
· Limited scope x-ray operator certification strongly preferred.
· Ability to manage time effectively.
· Ability to communicate effectively in writing or orally.
· Knowledge and experience working with Native American communities, culture, and customs.
· Must have current driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, proof of current insurance coverage, and insurability under the tribe’s auto insurance policy.
· Must pass a requisite background check.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work in collaboration with other healthcare providers and staff to evaluate the medical or physical condition of the patients.
· Evaluate needs of the patient.
· Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
· Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures; monitoring quality control measures and protocols.
· Serves as a technical resource by participating in staff training; answering questions of other professionals and staff; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
· Work together with other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
· Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, the provider, the pathologist, the nurse; reporting mandated information to public health departments and other designated officials.
· Provides toxicology results including the presence or quantity of drugs of abuse, therapeutic drugs, and toxic substances by operating toxicology instrumentation and performing manual methods for the performance of drug screens, blood alcohol levels, and carbon monoxide levels.
· Provides chemistry test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating chemistry equipment; performing hand chemistries.
· Provides hematology test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation equipment; performing manual methods of differentials.
· Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, providers and staff by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
· Enhances facility services and facility reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
· Complies dress code and maintains a professional image.
· Attends and participates in various meetings including staff, advisory, care conferences, approved workshops and trainings.
· May serve on advisory groups that service or have connection with the community.
· Adheres to ethical standards of state and national entities.
· Assumes responsibility for self development. Participates in continuing education programs, workshops and conferences and adheres to licensing requirements.
· Maintains patient/client confidentiality and adheres to the confidentiality of all internal information.
