We wanted to share with you how we spent our money from SMSC.
Solar Panels
There are now solar panels on the roof of the recreation building! This was made possible from a $151,400 grant Lower Sioux received from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC). With the installation of these panels we will now be able to save 20% of energy costs for the recreation building!!! To some saving 20% may not seem like a lot, but over time this savings is huge! Soon we will have a computer station set-up in our computer lab to show & educate you on how our panels are working!
Computer Lab
There is now a computer lab in the recreation building! It is located in the old health office. Thanks to SMSC for granting Lower Sioux $20,000 for this project!
Playground Updates
All of the playgrounds on the reservation have a new look! Wood mulch was put around all the playgrounds along with a few other things to help with the upkeep of them! This was made possible from a $30,000 grant Lower Sioux received from the SMSC!
Suicide Prevention
We were granted $45,000 from SMSC to use for suicide prevention. With these funds we were able to have the Gathering of Native Americans (GONA) Event, the Awareness Dinner, the Wellness Dinner, provided shirts for our UNITY group & the Walk Against Violence, had the Rez Heads event, and Family Fun Day!
Recreation Equipment
We were also able to purchase LaCrosse and other equipment for the Recreation Center!
