Did you know for most people, when sodium intake is reduced, blood pressure begins decreasing in only a few weeks, on average?!
Here are a few tips on how you can reduce the sodium in your diet:
- Fill up on fresh fruits and Veggies, fresh or frozen- they are naturally low in sodium.
- Cut back on processed foods especially ready to eat foods like cured meats, lunch meats, pizza and canned soups.
- When available, buy “low sodium,” “reduced sodium,” or “no salt added” versions of packaged or canned foods.
- Skip adding salt when cooking. Keep salt off the kitchen counter, and dinner table. Use spices and herbs to season foods.
- Cut back on salt little by little and pay attention to the natural tastes of various foods. Your taste for salt will lessen over time.
